Parents Right to Know (NCLB)
School staff and district administrators want to welcome you and your family to a new school year. As parents, you play a key role in helping your child’s succeed in school. Your understanding and support of our efforts to help your child acquire the knowledge and skills he or she needs are critical to your child’s success this year.
To help parents become more knowledgeable about Westvale Elementary and our efforts to meet new requirements outlined in the new federal education “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) Act, we will be notifying you of Westvale’s status with regard to making “adequate yearly progress” toward meeting state and federal NCLB student achievement goals. In addition, school and district report cards will be available on the Internet. These report cards will help you understand how adequate yearly progress has been determined for both your child’s school and the district.
In addition, you may request the following information about your child’s teacher’s professional qualifications:
- Whether your child’s teacher has met state qualifications and licensing requirements for the grade level in which the teacher teaches your child;
- If your child’s teacher is teaching under either an emergency or other provisional status through which state qualification or licensing criteria has been waived;
- The college baccalaureate degree major and any other graduate certification or degree held by your child’s teacher, as well as the field in which the teacher is certified or received their degree;
- Whether your child is receiving services from paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
To request information regarding your child’s teacher and paraprofessionals working with your child under this teacher’s direction, please contact your principal.
